James Hurley at The Rooms
August 13

St. John’s native, James Hurley is a classical pianist with a passion for improvisation.  As a performer, James combines his love of classical and improvised music.  His solo work has focused on long form improvisations which are serene explorations of space and timing.  Since 2011, James has relocated to Germany.  A dream he’s had since he was a child became realized in 2015 as he opened Piu Piano, a live performance venue and piano school.  James has curated and presented dozens of workshops and concerts featuring respected artists from around the world.

Come show off your knowledge about Newfoundland and Labrador and win prizes! Ramona Dearing is a writer and a retired host of CBC Radio’s CrossTalk and its popular Trivia editions.

Taste of Home
August 16, 23

Relax with live local music from around the province, a glass* with friends, a tasting plate of local delicacies and the sun setting over the best view in the city. A Taste of Home is an exclusive new evening experience of Newfoundland and Labrador’s signature cultural landmark, The Rooms, developed just for Come Home Year. Each ticket includes a takeaway memento and an admission voucher to return during regular opening hours to view current exhibitions. (*Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage choices available).

Inspired B’y: The Majestic Iceberg – Watercolour Workshop
August 30 

During this engaging afternoon, participants will get to touch iceberg ice collected from the North Atlantic, be inspired by beautiful paintings of icebergs by artist Tara Byran, see historic iceberg photographs, see a lifejacket used on The Titanic, and will create their very own iceberg-inspired watercolour painting using actual iceberg water. Takeaways also include a memento bottle of iceberg water and a custom postcard set of historic iceberg images from our Archives. This is a workshop for adults. No painting experience necessary - all skill levels welcome!

Beyond the Attic Genealogy Workshop
