Fine Art Workshop: Contemporary Textiles
If you are passionate about textiles, this day is for you! Join art educator, Anne Pickard-Vaandering, for a discussion and workshop on contemporary textiles practices in fine art and craft. We will begin with a presentation about sustainability and the effects of textile production on the environment, and take a look at exciting and innovative 21st century textiles. There will be a hands-on fibres workshop to explore processes in felting, knit, crotchet and other methodologies. The day ends with an interpretive tour of the exhibitions, Weaving the Existing, Home Economics – 150 years of Canadian Hooked Rugs, and A Going Concern: Contemporary Textiles and Everyday Politics in Newfoundland and Labrador.
