Beaumont-Hamel and the Trail of the Caribou

On July 1st, 2016, HRH The Princess Royal, Colonel and Chief of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment opened the exhibition, Beaumont-Hamel and the Trail of the Caribou: Newfoundlanders and Labradorians at War and at Home.

The exhibition documents and explores the effects of the First World War on Newfoundland and Labrador — on those who fought, on the families and communities left behind, and on the politics, economy and future Newfoundland and Labrador.

Now, The Rooms has completed a new companion catalogue to that exhibition. The publication contains first-hand experiences of the people who were involved in and transformed by the conflict. These stories are supported by the participants’ authentic objects and archival documents, many of which were lent or donated by the thousands of people who came out to tell their family stories.
