Women in Sport
In 1895 a “Lady Bicyclist” was viewed cycling through the fog of St. John’s in the company of a young man. When questioned by a reporter about the propriety of the sport, the woman replied that she not only had the right to bicycle, but also believed in “woman suffrage and all the other privileges which the advanced woman says unjust laws deprive her of.”

The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery

The Shepherds : Two Lives in Art
The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery examines the Shepherds' artistic production over the last half-century, bringing to light relatively unknown works in private hands as well as presenting favorites from the collections in the care of the Gallery. As Helen became well known for her commissioned portraits and meticulous still-lives, Reginald concentrated on atmospheric serigraphs and watercolours of Newfoundland, and the occasional site-specific painting, such as the Atlantic Place mural and an altarpiece for St. Patrick's Church, which is included in the exhibition.

Christopher Pratt - Drawing From Memory
Christopher Pratt's life has been the primary source of inspiration for his work. From a very early age, he was interested in making images; more importantly, he was aware that "pictures" could communicate ideas and emotions. He noticed the details in the world around him, and he noticed that those details could create a response. Throughout his life he has kept, sometimes only in his memory, those details that were most important about the places he went and the things he experienced.
