WELCOME TO THE FRENCH SHORE WEBSITE

Harbour Deep
Welcome to the Provincial Archives of Newfoundland and Labrador's website dedicated to the history of Newfoundland's French Shore. This website celebrates the 500th anniversary of the French in Newfoundland by presenting a collection of images from the communities which reside along the French Shore, as well as hydrographic charts created by the French during the time when France held treaty rights over the shore of the island along the Northeast Coast and the Great Northern Peninsula. This website will prove beneficial both to those with no knowledge of French heritage in Newfoundland and to those familiar with the story. The aim of this website is to introduce the newcomer to the rich French heritage of Newfoundland and provide those with prior knowledge with articles and links to archival resources that will provide further information. Please click here to start exploring the history of the French Shore with a brief introduction.
