History
The French, who fished the coast from Red Island to Flower's Cove in the 1700s and 1800s, possibly used the anchorage of Green Island Cove as they did neighbouring French Island Harbour. However, no oral tradition exists of a French fishery at Green Island Cove, and the dangerous harbour approaches caused by off-lying ledges may have rendered the area unsuitable for the large French fishing ships.
